New raised mixed border for Jane's large pond with a view of the sea beyond. Services included: Design, source main contractor, monitor build, planting
I was called in to enhance the corner of a large garden that had a wonderful view of the sea and a beautiful large pond in the corner but with little around it. The space was a bit weak in terms of balancing with the rest of the garden. So a new border was designed and planted by myself and my assistant. It was important to hide the boring fencing, and not to obliterate the beautiful sense of distance above the fence line. This part of the garden suffered from moisture run-off from the pond and so a Millboard composite frame and decked path was a good choice. Main contractor was Frogheath Landscapes. The team created essentially a large raised bed supported by local sandstone boulders and sleepers. Existing phormiums were lifted and re-positioned, and a collection of grasses and perennials now jostle to give a satisfying long display of drama throughout spring, summer and autumn. Plants include: diascia, iris, agapanthus, asters, purple loosestrife, heleniums, japanese anemones, primula, verbena bonariensis, geums, agastache, penstemmon. Grasses include : molinia, stipa, calamagrostis. Project completed 2021. Video footage below filmed Summer 2022
