The garden was a blank canvas on a new build estate.  The client was much in need of a larger patio area and we decided to use natural sandstone in a circular shape for the main seating area. I echoed this shape into the lawn, and we replaced the mock stone on the steps up to the garage as well.

A small picket fence divided the garden in two, cutting off connection to the upper level. With this removed, the eye could enjoy a much larger sense of space and variety of plants.

A low maintenance garden has been achieved by the use of evergreen plants such as palms, cordylines, phormiums and bamboo. This gave the garden an exotic feel, enhanced with heucharas, cannas, ferns, grasses, agaves and agapanthus.

Mounded soil and local natural sandstone boulders, dressed with shingle were used to create a rockery area that is south facing. The fragrance of star jasmine will clothe this side of the garden.

A gargoyle mounted onto a rusty pole, old logs under a tree fern and large mossy boulders for stepping stones to the back tap all give character to the plant design.

A lighting budget allowed for white down lighters, green and blue up lighters.

An all round pleasure to build.
